Maria Brophy

Tara Reed & Maria Brophy

All Portfolio Members will be given the link to download Tara's article, "Why you need more than just great art to succeed in art licensing..." in addition to an exclusive ALSC discount on their contracts ebook and templates!

About Maria Brophy and Tara Reed:

Maria Brophy is the agent for her artist-husband Drew Brophy and an advocate and consultant for artists trying to build viable businesses.  Tara Reed licenses her own art and began teaching about how the art licensing industry works in 2008.  Their paths crossed and they decided working together could be very synergistic.

They began talking about all the questions, concerns and fear artists have about contracts. Contracts are an aspect of art licensing that makes artists nervous and lack confidence. Maria & Tara decided to team up to write a book and then Maria also added a short licensing template package to the offering.

Their goal is to give you a thorough introduction to art licensing contracts – not just the nuts and bolts of them but also the reasons behind them.  They want you to understand how your goals as an artist might affect the kind of contract you accept or decline and help you see the contract from both sides – yours and the manufacturers.

They are offering a discount on the eBook or the eBook/template combo to Portfolio members of the Art Licensing Show.  You can learn more about the products at here. (*We are proud to be an official Art Licensing Info Affiliate Partner.)

Illustrator Cherish Flieder is an internationally-featured artist, designer, creative entrepreneur, and award-winning children’s book illustrator and designer. She began her career by working in-house for the apparel industry on licensed product lines, and in her off hours freelance illustrating for publishing. Like many, she left the corporate world to work full-time for her own illustration and design studio, one that she started with her husband Benjamin Hummel, who is also an accomplished professional artist. Through the years, Cherish’s designs have been seen in fashion apparel, books, magazines, greeting cards, gifts, crafts and more. Recently, she is best known for her Something to Cherish® whimsically elegant, mixed-media art. Since 2008, Cherish has been teaching as an adjunct instructor for marketing, illustration, design and technology classes at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. She has also been invited by several other universities and colleges across the USA as a guest artist to demonstrate/teach/present on art, social media, and website development.

Cherish Flieder is passionate about Art Licensing and has been active in uniting the art licensing community over the last decade. Founder of the LinkedIn ArtofLicensing.com Group, she has also established groups on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Thanks to Cherish’s effort, we are now a community of well over 12K members strong.

Active in building community, Cherish is someone who cares about every facet of the art licensing industry. As part of her teaching curriculum, she makes every effort to stay on top of both marketing technologies and IP laws as they pertain to the web. In the last few years, she has become increasingly alarmed at the impact and the nature of the terms and conditions various social media platforms published, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and others. She is concerned about the current and future impact these terms will have on herself and her friends who make a living through licensing their art.

Cherish's desire to promote the group and generate opportunities for its members also led her to realize it was a shame to have such a large online art community on LinkedIn and NO ART to show for it! Looking to solve these problems, while creating a safe and protected place for artists to showcase their work online, Cherish had the light bulb moment to create a new community at ArtLicensingShow.com

You may contact Cherish at [email protected].

All Portfolio Members will be given the link to download the "Licensing Concepts"a valuable art licensing tip sheet from Joanne Fink of Zenspirations & Angie Vangalis of AV Graphics.

Philadelphia native Joanne Fink loves letters... words... and writing inspiring sentiments. A gifted calligrapher, art director and designer, Joanne founded her studio, Lakeside Design (www.lakeside-design.com), after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. Located in Longwood, Florida, Lakeside Design, specializes in developing products for the gift, stationery, craft and faith-based markets.

After spending 20+ years as an art director, the lure of ink-on-paper proved too strong and Joanne returned to the drawing board. A year later, she launched her new Zenspirations™ brand, and over the past several years has licensed Zenspirations designs for many products including greeting cards, giftware, t-shirts and jewelry. You can learn more about Zenspirations, and see some of Joanne's videos on her website www.zenspirations.com, or on Sakura's website, www.sakuraofamerica.com.

Joanne teaches her method of patterned drawing in her best-selling books, Zenspirations Letters & Patterning, Zenspirations Dangle Designs, and the new expanded Zenspirations Dangle Design Workbook. For more Zenspirations fun, check out the three new Zenspirations Create, Color, Pattern & Play books-- released just in time for the holidays!

Joanne started her career as a greeting card designer, and spent 11 years as the Design Editor for Greetings etc. magazine. She enjoys teaching, and is excited about the series of Zenspirations workshops she'll be offering in 2014. An expert in Art Licensing, Joanne often coaches artists who are interested in learning about the art licensing industry. Her other books include Greeting Card Design, the 22nd and 23rd Editions of The Speedball Textbook, The Lettershop Calligraphy Project Kit (with Cheryl Adams), Lettering Arts (with Judy Kastin) and Faber Castell's Brush Lettering and Calligraphy kit, and her new gift book for Harvest House, With God All Things are Possible.

A passionate advocate for artist's rights, Joanne has a long history of community service. She was the Founding President of the international Association for the Calligraphic Arts, and was one of the Founding Board Members of the American Guild of Judaic Art. She served on the Board of Directors of the Greeting Card Association from 2001 - 2009, and co-chaired the Craft and Hobby Association's License & Design Advisory Board from 2008-2011. Before that Joanne served as President of the Foundation for the Calligraphic Arts; locally she is active in the Jewish community and has served on the boards of the Jewish Community Center and the Holocaust Center of Central Florida.

When not at her drawing board, Joanne enjoys Pinterest, singing, reading, playing word games and spending time with friends and family.

Sue Duda - Gruesome Greetings
Lorraine Mullett - License to Draw

All Portfolio Members will be given the link to download "Ronnie's Realities: 10 Things I Know For Sure."

Ronnie Walter is an illustrator, author, and self professed smart aleck. Ronnie licenses her artwork and writing for giftware, stationery, home decor and greeting cards to some of the biggest names in the business. Also an agent, consultant and humor writer, or as Ronnie says,”Nobody has more fun at work than me!”

From the first time she was handed a blank piece of paper and a crayon, Ronnie Walter knew what she wanted to do for a living--draw pictures and tell stories! After a rambling education at art school, a state university and a stint in England, she finally figured out how to do just that! She has been freelancing for over twenty years with her words and illustrations licensed on fabric, home accessories, gift items and more greeting cards than she can count.

License to Draw: How I built a fun career in art licensing and you can too!

Make money licensing your artwork on gifts, stationery and greeting cards? Successful artist and writer Ronnie Walter has done exactly that and now she's written a book about the ins and outs of the art licensing business. Written in a friendly and readable style, you'll find inspiration, motivation and a step by step explanation of how to get your work published. You'll also travel along Ronnie's journey of how she went from a starving art student to a successful artist with hundreds of products generating royalties.

Gruesome Greetings: A Georgie Hardtman Mystery

Greeting card artist Georgie Hardtman is leaving Oslo Lake, Minnesota and heading off to New York City to exhibit at Art LicenseFest!, the biggest artist trade show of the year. She had high expectations for an exciting trip, but when she discovers a dead body in her booth on set-up day, everything she thought she knew in this business is turned on its clever little art directed ear! And when another body turns up, Georgie can’t help but ask, “Am I next?” As the prime suspect, not only is Georgie’s reputation at stake--but her very life! She needs to find the real killer and clear her name before the show closes. Who can Georgie trust as her cute world quickly becomes sinister! Written by Ronnie Walter, a writer and illustrator whose work has appeared on thousands of products including fabric, giftware, home accessories, stationery and more greeting cards than she can count.

Ronnie can be reached through her website at www.ronniewalter.com and she would love to hang out with you on her Facebook page, Ronnie Walter Writes and Draws!
